June in Tahoe Donner is when the season shifts fast. Days get longer, more neighbors arrive for summer, and dry season starts to feel real. This is the perfect time for a quick property walkaround, not a full weekend project, just a focused check that helps you catch issues early.
Set a timer for 60 minutes, grab your phone for photos, and use this simple route.
Start at the driveway and street edge (10 minutes)
Look for:
- Overgrown branches narrowing the driveway or blocking sightlines
- Loose gravel, ruts, or soft shoulders where runoff cut channels this spring
- Low branches over turnarounds and parking areas
Why it matters: Summer means more visitors, deliveries, and service traffic. Clear access now saves hassle later.
Walk the “weather side” of the house (15 minutes)
Most mountain homes have one side that takes more sun, wind, and moisture. It is usually where wear shows up first.
Look for:
- Peeling or thinning paint or stain on trim and exposed wood
- Darkened areas where moisture lingered
- Splashback staining near the base of the siding
If you see it: Take a photo. Small finish problems are easier to address before the July heat and heavy sun exposure.
Check decks, stairs, and railings (15 minutes)
June is deck season. It is also when small safety issues become noticeable because you are using the space more.
Look for:
- Railings that wobble
- Stairs that feel loose or uneven
- Popped fasteners, lifted boards, or soft spots
- Finish wear on high-traffic areas and handrails
Rule of thumb: Repairs first, finish second.
Scan for tree hazards and defensible space priorities (15 minutes)
You do not need to do everything at once. You do need to notice what is closest to the home and what could become a problem as conditions dry out.
Look for:
- Dead branches, broken limbs, or hanging hazards
- Dense brush and small trees packed together near structures
- Low branches over roofs, decks, and driveways
- Needle and leaf buildup around decks and along the home’s edge
