The resorts are closed but springtime in Truckee is one of the best times to the outdoors. You get some moderate, beautiful weather paired with cooler temps allowing for more time outside. And in Truckee, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy during this time of year.
One of our more popular “exports’ is hiking. There are a plethora of trails to choose from in the Truckee area, ranging from easy to difficult. The China Cove Loop at Donner Lake offers a historical glimpse into the origins of our town on a calm walk through the woods and along Donner Lake. For those looking for a challenge, try a stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail, a long-distance trail that spans from Mexico to Canada and goes right through Truckee.
Another great activity, and a local favorite is biking. Everything from paved routes for the whole family like The Truckee River Legacy Trail, to high intensity enduro trails like the A-1 Jackass Loop, and heavy-hitting downhill courses like the one at Northstar Resort. Bonus rad points if you decide to head to Truckee Bike Park and turn some heads at our world-class dirt bike park. Our town delivers a place for everyone to enjoy some pedal time.
If you’re looking for more leisurely activities, consider going on a picnic at Donner Lake. Explore the shores of the Truckee River. Head to any one of our public parks like Donner Memorial State Park or Truckee River Regional Park.
For those who love water sports, spring is the perfect time to go kayaking or paddleboarding. Donner Lake is a great spot for these activities, as well as Lake Tahoe. You can rent equipment from local rental shops or bring your own.
Lastly, don’t forget about fishing! The Truckee River is home to a variety of fish, including trout and bass. Grab your fishing gear and spend a day on the river.
No matter what your interests are, Truckee has something for everyone during the springtime. So get outside, soak up the sunshine, and enjoy all that this beautiful area has to offer.
