Mother’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate our favorite matrons in our lives. Whether mom is more of an outdoorsy type, more of a little shopping followed by happy hour personality, or she’s both. Truckee has plenty of activities to make this year extra special for mom. Should you decide to take mom out to eat, many restaurants around town will have special Mother’s Day menu so make sure that you call ahead to make sure reservations are not necessary!
Start the day off with a scenic hike on one of the many trails in the area. The Donner Summit Canyon Trail is a great choice for those looking for a moderate with beautiful views of Donner Lake. There is also the Mount Rose Trail that offers a little more challenge but comes with stunning views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
After a hike, or breakfast in bed, downtown Truckee has some great local shopping. Our small stretch of stores comes with a variety of unique boutiques and gift shops, perfect for picking up a one-of-a-kind Mother’s Day gift.
For lunch, treat your mom to a special meal at one of the many great restaraunts here like Moody’s Bistro Bar & Beats, Bar of America, 1882 with a patio overlooking the Truckee River, or head up the street to 50/50 Brewing for craft beer and a gourmet menu. All of these restaurants offer a variety of dishes, from fresh seafood to delicious burgers, and cozy atmospheres perfect for a Mother’s Day celebration.
You can plan to walk lunch off with a short strut down the Truckee River Legacy Trail, a 6.3-mile paved path that follows the Truckee River, offering beautiful views of the water and surrounding mountains. Maybe do it by bike. If you don’t have a bike then you can rent one from the nearby Truckee River Bike Shop.
End the day with a relaxing spa treatment at the Cedar House Sport Hotel which offers a variety of massages and facials, as well as access to their sauna and hot tub. The perfect way to treat mom after a fun-filled day.
