Holy Summer Winter!
If you have spent enough time in Truckee during our winters then you have most likely heard the term “Miracle March” which was coined back in 1991 after a snowstorm hit this town on March 1 increasing snowpack from 17% of average to 73% by the end of the month. This winter seems to be attempting to break that record low as we are currently at -33% average snowpack on the ground.
However, we have been clearing driveways since 1979 and are not yet convinced that this winter is a dud because, historically speaking, winters in Truckee like to take their time to arrive. As you can see in the graph by OpenSnow of the CSSL Snowfall Averages below, Truckee’s largest snowfalls happen between January through the end of March, with March being notorious for its ability to deliver some big snowfalls.
So while we all may be dreaming of some deeper days here, we just wanted to remind you that there is still hope!
